Since its creation in 1848 as a linen mill CALCUTTA has never stopped developing new products according to the economic situation and commercial needs. The name CALCUTTA was given to the company in 1901. At that time mainly jute, imported from the Indian port of Calcutta, was woven for jute bags and carpet backing. Around 1950 CALCUTTA became a very important weaving mill of sisal. In the seventies CALCUTTA started to produce and export huge quantities of all types of textile wall coverings. Nowadays CALCUTTA is one of the few remaining companies specialized in this product, mainly in traditional jacquard woven designs. Since 1990 CALCUTTA has become one of the most important European producers of finished textiles for interior sun protection, emphasizing on a wide range of jacquard designs in vertical, roller and pleated blinds. A dynamic search for new products runs through our history as a continuous thread.
